Year 2, Project 5 - A Disaster Waiting To Happen

The disaster I chose to that will hopefully make my fellow students "anxious" (as requested in the brief) is the latest attempts by governments around the globe to restrict freedom on the internet as requested by giant media corporations. Yay (sarcasm).

Now the 2 proposed legislations that caused a great deal of controversy were SOPA and PIPA. Thanks to a huge global internet effort of both websites and users protesting against the legislations which could have seen people jailed for up to 5 years for simply uploading a music video, may I add Doctor Conrad Murray got only 4 years for killing Michael Jackson, the American congress steadily pulled out.

How ever the threat still remains as last week we saw the closing of certain websites and a new a global legislation ACTA trying to be pushed through. So I still feel the need to inform people is still there.

To make people aware of these acts, I have chosen to start a campaign that consist of posters, videos and music files made mostly using material I should not use! Thats right, I shall be breaching copyright infringements while I still can. Well as long as i can get away with it.

The next bit of Campaign material is a video I made only using Youtube clips. The whole affair wasn't exactly legal, strictly speaking. 

  

Its time to evaluate my "doings" so far. Now I like the first poster shown above, It does look very like a campaign poster despite using a rather strange image. The second image however does look "cool" but its not really my best piece of work. Time to get a little typographic and design a better piece of work.

Ok still no! Despite the numerous changes I still wasn't happy and so after one last crack at it this beauty was made -
