Year 2, Project 2 - Quote's

For this project I had to turn the quote "knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens" by Jimi Hendrix into a typographical poster.

I wanted to place the words on the poster where they would be relevant to Jimi himself. To do this I picked an image of his face, placed it on the poster, broke the quote into 2 parts and placed them near his ear and mouth to symbolize speaking and hearing.

In doing so the last part of the quote appears before the first part.

Overview - Typographically it does not work. So i reached into my bag and pulled out a new quote in the hope that maybe it would be easier to create a poster by laying out type in a simple manor.

The new quote is,

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former"
-Albert Einstein

Playing with the part that says "human stupidity" here's what i come up with ..

One comment that was made about these new pieces was that there's "too much white" in them. Well here's the answer to that ..

I also added a box to the back to the poster with all the characters form my chosen type set out (rules of the brief)

Left page (front) Right page (back)

The brief also asked us to somehow project the brief to the public and make it "three-dimensional" somehow.

My response to this is a video. I went to central london and asked people to read out of quote and recorded the process.

I used iMovie to create the video.

Here is some stills from the video -

And here is the final video it's self.

Finally, the brief asked us to write up a short essay on why we chose the fonts we did -
